Self Reflection

Jacob Trettin Dr. Meehan April 28, 2005 Self Reflection When I think about my rookies year in school certain things ring a bell. The most significant thing that I consider is my composition and relational abilities. One class that helped me an extraordinary arrangement is Composition and Communication. The explanation I imagine that class helped me is on the grounds that I figured out how also improve my postulation just as my whole papers, likewise my procedure of how I compose my papers, and how to give a powerful discourse. At the point when I came to school perhaps the greatest dread was my composing skills.I realized my articles were never that incredible in secondary school and I expected that I was required to have better composing aptitudes then what I had now. At that point I entered a class called piece and correspondence. Coming into this class from the outset I was apprehensive in light of the fact that I knew in would have been substantial stacked in the composing territ ory. At that point we composed are first paper about a melodic presentation on this exposition I concentrated on my proposition since that was one of my objectives going into this class to improve my postulation in my papers. I trust I was effective in my proposal for this paper. Over all I think this paper was my best out of the considerable number of expositions we composed for this class. On the following article I truly centered around my creative cycle I began with a framework at that point transformed that into a truly scrappy work in progress. I was somewhat incredulous from the start about how it was going to turn out. Generally my unfinished versions don’t truly change a ton yet that was not the situation for this one. My last draft was a finished change it resembled I composed 2 distinct expositions and picked the best one. I didn’t simply change the article I improved it and it simply happened to totally change the paper. I before long understood that this pr ocedure was a much improvement to my composing style and I chose to give it a shot on the entirety of my expositions that I write.Another aptitude that I was certainly not brought into the world with is my capacity to talk before a gathering. I will be the first to reveal to you that I am a ghastly speaker. So you can likely tell that I don’t have a ton of trust in my talking aptitudes. This doesn't prevent me from attempting to improve around there using any and all means. The principal discourse we gave in C and C class was without a doubt awful. After this I concluded I will improve gradually in my school vocation and the initial step was to enhance the following discourse that we will give in this C and C class. When I discovered what are next discourse was about I locked down and came in with a radiant game plan. Despite the fact that it didn’t turn out just as I had trusted I despite everything trust I made a stride the correct way. There is certainly opportunity to get better be that as it may. All things considered I accept that my involvement in my piece and correspondence class was a litigant in addition to and I think it gave me an extraordinary base for what is to come in my higher composing courses. I feel there is a lot of ways I can show signs of improvement however until further notice I am pleased with where I am at as an essayist. Self Reflection Self Reflection The errand that was given to us toward the beginning of the semester was to make a gathering comprising of 3-4 individuals and cooperatively work with each other to accomplish the objective of a 15-minute discourse. The point that was introduced to my gathering, which comprised of myself, Josh Chua, Jack Winton and Greg Scopes was that of Marketing Mix Strategy. Through the week’s paving the way to the discourse, the gathering figured thoughts and endeavored to discover approaches to keep the crowd intrigued while attempting to communicate key purposes of data on our topic.Although we felt arranged before the discourse as a gathering we were apprehensive in light of the fact that we knew there were numerous things that we hadn’t addressed. Inside this reflection I will address positive parts of our discourse, for example, parts that we exceeded expectations in and I will cover parts that adversely influenced our discourse, for example, things that we neg lected to create. Positives Through perusing the criticism it has been featured the pieces of the discourse where we have exceeded expectations and the pieces of the discourse were we have needed to create quality. It is obvious from the input that we have effectively composed the introduction as it were, which was anything but difficult to follow for the crowd, we equally adjusted the remaining burden of the discourse and we gave genuine guides to our subject of Product, Price, Distribution and Promotion through adequate hypothesis. Effectively arranging the introduction and data was a significant objective for our gathering, as getting this correct implies that crowd will handily have the option to get a handle on the idea of our general speech. We led an overview and it paid of with essential data and information. Equitably adjusting the work process in the introduction of the discourse is a conspicuous positive as changing the speaker keeps the crowd intrigued. Giving guides to ba ck up our focuses was another conspicuous positive as this helped the crowd comprehend the idea of our discourse. Negatives After auditing the criticism plainly the gathering had an absence of eagerness, depended to vigorously on our content and needed cooperation with the audience. When it comes to excitement of conveying the discourse this is a significant subject as it keeps crowd drew in, without this the crowd will lose intrigue and daydream. During the discourse it was evident now and again that the crowd lost intrigue, which is a significant negative when attempting to sell a thought or an item. It is prescribed that to enhance this flaw more practice should be spent so as to become familiar with the discourse and item better, to have the option to unquestionably say the discourse. Too better assistance excitement it is savvy to more readily get familiar with our discourse as a group.Throughout the discourse obviously most individuals including myself depended intensely on pal m cards. In a genuine business circumstance this would not be adequate and would not reflect well. To enhance this if we somehow happened to rehash the discourse it is shrewd to become familiar with the speech’s significant focuses and just have speck focuses on the palm cards. By doing this it will keep crowd progressively connected as eye to eye connection would stay consistent. The third significant negative to our discourse was our absence of exertion to associate and draw in the crowd with any actuates or questions, which would of helped them better comprehend our topic.By not doing this basic errand it thinks about gravely us as a gathering, as crowd lose intrigue. If this somehow happened to occur in a genuine business situation there would be no way in selling our item or thought. It is recommended that so as to better ourselves and our group’s odds of effectively selling our item, it is of imperative significance that we keep crowd connected through exercises, for example, questions and conversation as a gathering. End From the input given clearly there are spots to improve on.By making the changes expressed above it will ponder enormously our gathering as we would not exclusively be sorting out our introduction well, equitably appropriating the remaining task at hand and giving models yet we would likewise be excited about our thought, through learning and understanding our discourse better, we would keep eye to eye connection with the crowd all the more frequently, because of not utilizing palm cards lastly we would get the crowd in question, through exercises, for example, ordinary inquiries to wake them up and profound conversation to make them understand. If these significant negatives were addressed and made into positives I accept that our gathering could give a data filled discourse while keeping crowd engaged and locked in. Self Reflection Self Reflection The undertaking that was given to us toward the beginning of the semester was to make a gathering comprising of 3-4 individuals and cooperatively work with each other to accomplish the objective of a 15-minute discourse. Did you know thatone second delay in your sites load time can cause a 7% loss in conversions? And a 11% loss in page views? And a 16% loss in customer satisfaction?  Do I need to go on?Im not kidding here, by the way.  Actual research findings confirm these lousy numbers. What this means in plain English is that you  need to be very careful not to kill your sites results with something as trivial-sounding as  loading times.Quite simply,  if your website fails to load quickly enough, the visitors will go back to the competition almost immediately. And they will likely never come back. Plus, search engines like Google hav e also confirmed that they take page load speed as a ranking factor.Ready to speed up your WordPress site?26 ways to speed up WordPress sitesPick the right web hostKeep WordPress updatedKeep plugins updatedRemove the plugins you dont needPerform plugin performance scansoptimize image file sizesMinimize your homepage designResize large image dimensionsUse a caching pluginOptimize your databaseMonitor your site securityLazy load imagesmove scripts to the footerRegenerate thumbnailsMinify JavaScript and CSS filesUse a content delivery network (CDN)Enable gzip compressionDisable hotlinkingRemove sliders from your designHook up to CloudflareSwitch to a faster themeDisable pingbacks and trackbacksUse CSS spritesDisable post revisionsRemove Gravatar imagesDelete spam comments1. Pick the right web hostThis is no.1 on the list not without a reason. Having your website hosted with the right company is the biggest factor contributing to your overall site speed.Hosting companies are basically l ike car manufacturers they all offer  different speed and performance. For instance, a  case study done at DB  revealed that the difference in the hosting company alone can account for even a  56% change in your response/loading times. So heres what you need to do to stay on the light side of the force:choose a hosting company with a good reputation, choose a server thats near the geographic location of your target audience. When it comes to former, Im not the guy to tell you which host to choose. Do your own diligence and if your site gets more than 30k monthly visits, its probably time to move onto Dedicated or VPS. Id pick HostGator or Siteground.Another thing is the servers location. If possible, choose the server location that nearest to your target audience. The reasoning is quite simple the closer the server is, the faster your website can be delivered.MY CASE STUDY:  I didnt change my host otherwise my test would have been too inaccurate.2. Keep WordPress updatedWordPress up dates get released quite often. New major versions come out every 152 days on average, but smaller updates appear much more often (around every 50 days if I remember correctly). In short, its crucial for you to update as soon as a new version comes out.MY CASE STUDY: I always try to keep my WordPress updated, so luckily I didnt need to make the update.3. Keep plugins updatedThe same thing goes for your plugins. Every new plugin update carries new improvements, not to mention security fixes. So again, whenever you see a plugin update notification, act on it.MY CASE STUDY: I had 3 plugins out of 15 outdated, so I updated them.4.  Remove the plugins you dont needOnce youre done updating plugins, its a good idea to reconsider even having some of them in the first place.Lets face it, not every plugin is an absolute necessity. You can probably do without a big portion of them.Need a reason to do so? As it turns out, plugins often contribute to over 86% of your total load time. At least that s what happened on one of my sites:MY CASE STUDY: I removed 4 plugins that were inactive.5. Perform plugin performance scansOkay, with some unnecessary plugins out of the way, now lets talk about poorly performing plugins.Under the hood, plugins are basically small pieces of software. And it just so happens that not all plugins are built with optimized and well-structured code. Some of them are simply poor. You can measure the performance of your plugins with another plugin called P3.MY CASE STUDY: I ran the scan and noticed that plugin named BackWPup was really heavy. Thus I removed it.6. Optimize image file sizesDid you know that most of your websites bandwidth is consumed by images? For instance, the original 13 chapters of The Art of War, when saved as a text-only version, takes up only 63KB of disk space. Again, thats the entire Art of War.You know what else takes up 63KB? This one single image right here:bulkresizephotos.comOptimole This can lower the size of your images for m ore than 70%. They have a free version which will be more than enough for most sites(Recommended) Use WPRocket which pretty much covers this and everything else in this guideMY CASE STUDY:  Since my homepage is aimed for people who are are learning to start a blog, I couldnt resist less than 20+ images to describe the whole process.Sadly, this made my homepage size to 7,2MB! But after following the 3 steps above, I managed to get it around 2,5MB far from perfect, but almost 3x times lighter than before.7. Minimize your homepage designMinimalism is the new black.Especially when it comes to homepages on WordPress websites.Heres the reasoning:Basically, the more elements you have on your homepage, the more time it will take to load them.  And as it turns out, you really dont need much on your homepage anyway. Some of the most successful sites on the web have very simple homepages.Example by Slack:MY CASE STUDY:  I didnt minimize my homepage. Although one image can tell a 1000 words, I just cant keep my blogging guide so short.WordPress plugins that will improve your performanceIm not a BIG fan of plugins since in my opinion, they are vulnerable and often slow down your blog, but some of them can really do wonders in terms of speed and performance.8. Resize large image dimensionsImsanity: Imsanity automatically resizes huge image uploads. Are contributors uploading huge photos? Tired of manually scaling? Imsanity to the rescue!Settings done (Settings Imsanity):MY CASE STUDY: As mentioned earlier, I DID use that plugin.9. Use a caching pluginCaching is a complicated and quite boring concept. But in a nutshell, it speeds up your site by storing the last known version of the site, and then delivering it to the visitors, instead of forcing WordPress to generate a new one on the fly more or less.Basically, the only thing that any one of us needs to know about caching is that it works and that its an impressive improvement. For instance, in a case study at yuiblog.com , we can see that introducing browser-side caching can reduce load times from 2.4 seconds to even 0.9 seconds.Want results like that? One of these plugins (but never more than one at the same time):W3 Total CacheWP Super CacheWPRocket (recommended)MY CASE  STUDY: I use WPRocket caching plugin as it is the easiest to use, and quite frankly it is the best in the industry. This plugin can REALLY speed up your blog. Especially when youre using a shared hosting account. If you use one of the first 2 options, make sure you check the manual tutorials, because its really easy to mess everything up.10. Optimize your databaseDont be afraid, this involves no coding work at all.  Optimizing your database is a fairly simple thing, and it can have a big impact on your site speed.Quite simply, over time, the database that WordPress uses to run your website will get crowded and messy. So every once in a while, you should use a plugin like WP-Optimize to clean it up automatically, but WPRocket does this also.MY CASE STUDY: I optimized my database since my site is getting quite large with over 300 pages of content.11. Monitor your site securityWordfence is a nice plugin that helps you put basic security in place, and overall keep your site healthy. It performs a range of scans and monitors whats going on on your site, notifying you in case theres something fishy.Sometimes, your site slows down because of malware or other nasty things. Wordfence saves you from those.MY CASE STUDY: Im not using WordFence, but Ive only heard good things about it. If you are a bit paranoid, feel free to install that plugin.12. Lazy load imagesSticking with the topic of images for a minute; another thing you can do is lazy load them. The idea behind this is to show images only once the visitor scrolls down the page to actually see them. With a lazy loading solution, the images arent getting loaded until that very moment. The best plugin to make this happen is again WPRocket, but another called BJ Laz y Load. can also do the job.MY CASE STUDY: I set it up on WPRocket, and its one of the biggest game changers for site speed. The only downside is that when the visitor is scrolling your site and the image pops up, it will be loaded as they get to it (not before). I find this is pretty much a non-issue, especially when you take into account that load speed is very important to visitors anyway.13. Move scripts to the footerJavaScript is this cool technology that lets you have interesting functionality on your site, but it also has its price. Mainly, it can slow things down.So an easy fix you can do is move all JavaScript files to the footer, rather than having them in the header (usually the default setup). Do this with a plugin like Scripts To Footer, or WPRocket.MY CASE STUDY:  My site doesnt have much JavaScript, but I use WPRocket anyway to squeeze every last ounce of speed I can.14. Regenerate thumbnailsThis is something worth doing whenever you change your theme to a new one. Mo st themes use different thumbnail sizes. If your previous thumbnails for the images uploaded in the past arent optimized, they will take up more bandwidth. You can fix that with a plugin called  Regenerate Thumbnails.MY CASE STUDY: I did install and activate Regenerate Thumbnails. You can also remove the thumbnails that youre not using. Once you are done with it, you can simply deactivate.15. Minify JavaScript and CSS filesYour WordPress website is a fairly complex creature. It consists of a range of files and data rows. One way to make it work faster is to minimize the number of those files, thus minimizing the number of requests that your visitors browsers need to make to fetch the site. The method is called minifying. You can integrate it either by (a) following the guidelines by Google by hand (a lot of work), or by (b) using a plugin like Autoptimize or WPRocket (easy).MY CASE STUDY:  Since Im not some WordPress guru I used to ask an experienced web developer to do it at first , but now I let WPRocket take care of it.Technical fixes to speed up websites16. Use a content delivery network (CDN)A CDN is meant to take all the static media files that you have on your site (usually images and other uploads) and distribute them across a network of servers for faster delivery to your audience.Hooking up your site to a CDN can result in your site loading much, much faster and also result in reduced bandwidth consumption.Use Key CDN for maximum results (they are great alternative for Max CDN or StackpathCDN), or use a free cloudflare CDN with WPRocketMY CASE STUDY:  Im using a free Cloudflare CDN through WPRocket to speed up my site. It was turned OFF when I ran the speed test. For average WordPress users its not essential. But if youre running a site like Mashable or HuffingtonPost its probably a MUST-HAVE.17. Enable gzip compressionAnother thing you can do to speed up your site is set up whats called gzip compression. It is a fairly technical process, but its b een well-documented across the web, so you should be able to get through it by following the steps. In short, gzip compression is about making the size of the files that comprise your website smaller so they can be delivered to your visitors faster.MY CASE STUDY: I didnt have it enabled when I did the test, but WPRocket can do this also.18. Disable hotlinkingHotlinking is what we call a situation when another webmaster attempts to display an image on their website by linking it directly from your website. This puts additional load on your server. You can disable hotlinking altogether by following this guide.MY CASE STUDY:  While this can speed your WordPress site/blog I felt that the advantage I can get from hotlinking doesnt overweigh the speed issue.19. Remove sliders from your designSliders may look cool, but they arent a valuable addition to your site on so many levels.First of all, they dont work as a conversion/design/business tool. Also, they tend to take a lot of time to load .The easiest fix is to remove all sliders you have on your site, and replace them with either static images or something entirely else, like an opt-in form.MY CASE STUDY: I absolutely HATE sliders, thus I didnt need to remove them.Optional fixes to help speed WordPress up20. Hook up to CloudFlareAs I said, you can do this with WPRocket which makes the setup a lot easier.CloudFlare  is magic. At least for me. I mean, I find it hard to understand how something as simple to set up as CloudFlare can have such an impact on your site performance.People report results upwards of even -44% shaved from their page load times. In a sentence, CloudFlare is an integrated CDN, optimization, security, and analytics solution. It filters the traffic that your website gets and makes sure that actual visitors get faster experience, while attackers are kept at bay. The setup is about five minutes and anyone can do it (theres a free plan available).MY CASE STUDY: This is something I have in place as I fe el it is a major factor in speeding up your site.21. Switch to a faster themeThis isnt always possible, especially if youre using a custom design, but you should still at least consider it.Some WordPress themes are much slower than others due to various factors. Usually, the overabundance of features is to blame (the more features there are, the slower the theme). So the trick is to use one of the best WordPress themes that has all the features that you absolutely need, and nothing that you dont. You can find quality free themes in the official directory, as well as some alternative directories.MY CASE STUDY:  I have a custom designed WordPress theme built on Genesis (which has a pretty clean code), so I didnt change my host. But believe me, there some great themes like Astra that are abnormally fast.22. Disable pingbacks and trackbacksPingbacks and trackbacks are a fairly confusing feature in  WordPress. You can read about them on the official pages, but basically, its WordPress way of communicating between other WordPress websites. The downside though is that these days, pingbacks and trackbacks are mostly used for spam.Disabling them all together is a quick fix that can speed up your site, as the WordPress software doesnt have to deal with them any longer.Do this by going to your wp-admin:  Settings / Discussion, and deselect the option labeled Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new articles.MY CASE STUDY: I disabled them. Why? Theres not much advantage you can get from them except spam.23. Use CSS spritesNormally, your CSS is arranged in a manner that  fetches a number of individual images and then serves them in various parts of your site design.A more optimized solution, however, is to have one large image, in which all the previous images are arranged next to each other. This is a CSS sprite. Heres some more info on this method.24. Disable post revisionsPost revisions are a great functionality in WordPress for some p eople. For others, its a totally useless thing. In themselves, revisions allow you to go back to any previous version of a given post. This gives you a possibility to restore it in case youve mistakenly erased something you didnt intend to erase. However, if you always stay with the latest version of your content and dont revert back to anything, revisions wont be of much use to you.If thats the case, consider disabling them altogether.  This can be done by  editing the main wp-config.php file of your WordPress installation. Add this line somewhere at the bottom:define( WP_POST_REVISIONS, false );MY CASE STUDY: Some of my posts had more than 200 revisions. I limited them to 5 revisions.25. Remove Gravatar imagesGravatar is the default way of handling comment avatars in WordPress. A very cool feature in itself, but it can have an impact on your site speed if your posts receive a lot of comments. This is simply a result of your site having to display  tens of avatar images. You can reduc e this load by disabling those Gravatar images completely.Handle this is your wp-admin: Go to Settings / Discussion, and deselect the Show Avatars box.MY CASE STUDY: I think people are more eager to comment when their face is being shown. I am testing this nonetheless moving forward, but during this test, I didnt remove Gravatar images.26. Delete spam commentsSites that get tons of traffic tend to get tons of spam comments. Spam comments are all taking irrelevant space. Im trying to block them with the plugin named CleanTalk, but some of the spam comment slip through.MY CASE STUDY: I had 4,500 spam comments waiting to be removed I flushed them down the toilet.27. ?Did I  forget any important speed optimization? Feel free to chip in and share your comment below. Heck, I might even test it out and credit you for the awesome tip ??How to speed up WordPress websites: My conclusionPersonally, I feel that the plugins above are great for speeding up your site, but one of the factors is it self not to install too many plugins. The benefits of installing a few plugins, in this case, is overridden by the benefits, but I prefer to use WPRocket as it also checks this box by doing the job of many plugins. If you dont want to pay the small price for WPRocket, then following the guide above will definitely help. But if you want to make life easy and take your site speed to insane levels then I would definitely take a look at WPRocket. Google Sites vs WordPress How to add contact form in WordPress

Vaccines Are A Good Thing - 2026 Words

Kurtis Roberts Ms. McElyea 1213 11 April, 16 Vaccines in Todays Society Vaccine are a common topic in todays society, they are used in the medical field everyday and most people have had vaccines. Vaccines are used to prevent specific illnesses that the immune system might not be able to handle if not vaccinated. Most people assume that they are safe, and that they should be used by everyone, but is that really the case? There currently exists a debate over the safety of vaccines, and the possible dangers that they might pose. The debate consists of two sides, the Pro-Vaccine group, and the Anti-Vaccine group. The Pro-Vaccine group believes that vaccines are a good thing, and that we should use them. The Anti-Vaccine group believes that vaccines are a bad thing, and that we should not use them. Each group has their fair share of good points. In the standpoint of who’s winning that could go to the Pro-Vaccine group, they currently have more support in society and most people believe that vaccines are safe. But number do not always mean something is right, the Anti-Vaccine group can not be discredited just because they have less support. The Anti-Vaccine group has their fair share of valid points on the issue. The middle ground in-between these two sides is pretty clear, the option to opt-out of vaccines that might be mandatory, while would be a big win for the Anti-Vaccine group it still has yet to happen. Propaganda and Radio Broadcasting In Nazi Germany Essay

In 1933 Adolf Hitler was chosen as Chancellor of Germany by president Paul von Hindenburg. With this, the Nazi party came to power. Originally called the National Socialist German Workers party (Nazi for short), the Nazi party emphasized how Laissez-faire capitalism, economic liberalism, and democracy failed in government. The National Socialists stressed the importance of the impeccability of the German race. Although they had very determined ideas, The Nazi party began as a relatively small group in 1918. But coming into the 1930’s this was not the case. The widespread use of propaganda and radio broadcasting were instrumental to the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party. On March 13, 1933, Adolf Hitler founded the Reich Ministry of†¦show more content†¦These radio sets became known as the People’s Sets. The dire ctor of the Reich Program, Hadamovsky (1904-1944), strongly believed that, â€Å"Broadcasting [was] propaganda’s perfect instrument.† Hadamovsky viewed the radio as the strongest weapon against the mind. It brought everyone together into one community, putting them all under a single idea. Not only did the radio simply unify the masses, but also it unified them under a single belief, Nazi ideology. In 1933 the Broadcast Division of the Ministry of Propaganda consisted of three departments. The Broadcasting Affairs took care of the technological component of radio broadcasting. Then there was the Political and Cultural Aspects department. And finally the Department of Organization and Administration. But as more people began to tune in, the departments grew. By 1936 the Broadcasting Division grew in size to four departments and one Special Tasks. The new department took care of all legal matters dealing with broadcasting to German households. The Special Tasks force was responsible for working together with the recreational programs designed for workers. As more propaganda filled broadcasts were being played, more people tuned in. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC)

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Free Online Research Papers A French physician more than 100 years ago first identified a disorder-once known as epiloia or Bourneville’s disease. Today it’s known as Tuberous sclerosis also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs , and the skin. It commonly affects the central nervous system and results in a combination of symptoms including seizures, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities, and kidney disease. I will look at the following: 1. Clinical manifestations 2. Diagnostic 3. Genetics of TSC 4. Signs and symptoms 5. Psychopharmacology in children with TS The manifestation of TSC is a disease that affects multiple organs such as skin, kidneys, brain, heart, eyes, lungs, teeth as well as other organ systems. However in most individuals the disease affects only some of the organs. TSC may present at birth, but signs of the disorder may take some time to develop. At least two children born each year will have TSC. Current estimates place TSC affected births at one in 6,000, nearly 1 million people worldwide and, approximately 50,000 in the Untied States. As a result, TSC is frequently unrecognized and misdiagnosed for years. The severity of TSC can range from mild skin abnormalities to, in severe cases, mental retardation and renal failure. Many TSC manifestations also develop later in life. Most individuals who are mildly affected lead active and productive lives. TSC is a life long disease and individuals should receive continuous follow-up care. In most cases the first clue to recognizing TSC is the presence of seizures or delayed development. In other cases the first sign might be white patched on the skin. Careful clinical exam in combination with CT or MRI of the brain may show tubers in the brain, and an ultra sound of the heart, liver, kidney scan show tumors there In July 1998 the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, convened a consensus conference of international experts to review the literature and the status of knowledge and research about TSC. One of the consensus panels developed a revised scheme for the TSC diagnostic criteria based on new clinical and molecular genetic studies. The new diagnostic criteria eliminated any single finding as specifically distinctive or characteristic of the disorder. Cortical tubers were believed to be pathognomonic of TSC. Evidence now suggests that radio graphic brain imaging and histologic studies are unable to distinguish these tubers from isolated cortical dysplasia. Subependymal giant cell astrocytomas and subependymal nodules can be distinguished from cortical tubers and from each other. The two subependymal lesions have a histologic and radiographic appearance that differs from the cortical tuber, whereas the giant cell astrocytomas is the only on that tends to enlarge. An important tool in diagnosing is its dermatologic manifestation, which comprises four major and one minor feature of TSC. Hypomelanotic macules are considered a new grouping, whereas the histologically similar forehead plaque, facial angiofibroma, and renal or other retinal hamartomas, are considered to major features used in diagnosis. Liver, spleen, rectal, or other lesions preferably Histologically confirmed hamartomatous lesions constitute minor features. TSC is caused by defects, or mutations, on two genes-TSC1 and TSC2. Only one gene needs to be affected for TSC to be present. The TSC1 gene is on chromosome 9 and produces a protein called hamartin. The TSC2 gene is on chromosome 16 and produces the protein tuberin. Scientists believe these proteins act as tumor growth suppressors, agents that regulate cell proliferation. Some individuals may inherit the disorder from a parent; most cases occur as spontaneous mutations. In other cases, TSC is an autosomal dominates disorder. Which means only one parent needs to have the gene, and each child has a 50% chance of developing the disorder. Some individuals acquire TSC through gonadal mosaicism. Approximately 33%, or 1/3, of the people with TSC inherits it from a parent who has it. Signs of discovery vary depending on which system and which organs are involved. Kidney problems such as cysts and angioyolipomas occur in an estimated 40 to 80 percent of individuals with TSC, usually occurring between ages 20 and 30. Three types of tumors are associated with TSC: cortical tubers, generally form on the surface of the brain, but may also appear in deep areas of the brain; subependymal nodules, which form in the walls of the ventricles the fluid filled cavities of the brain; giant-cell astrocytomas, a type of tumor that can grow and block the flow of fluids within the brain. Cardiac rhabdomyomas are tumors found in the heart of infants and young children. Phakomas are benign tumors found in the eyes, appearing as white patches on the retina. A wide variety of skin abnormalities can occur such as: hypomelanic macules, which are white or lighter patches of skin appearing anywhere; facial angiofibromas also called adenoma sebaceum, which appear on the face and consist of blood vessels and fibrous tissue; forehead plaques, which are common; shagreen patches, usually found on the lower back or the neck; ungula or subungual fibromas that grow around the toenails and fingernails. It’s known that children with TS are a higher risk for several different behavioral problems. The most sever is probably autistic disorder, which usually starts by 36 months and often succeeds early onset seizures. In the preschool years another problem that arises is attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). During adolescence depression, anxiety appears as they try to deal with new demands of maturing and continuing difficulties of chronic medical problems. If medications are given to treat behavioral problems, parents need to be aware of the effects they will have in a child who may have cardiac rhabdomyomas, renal angiomyoplomas or polycystic kidneys, cortical tubers, subependymal nodules. The child with rhabdomyomy may have disturbance in the cardiac rhyme including increased heart rate, complete heart block, junctional ectopic beats, and Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome. With seizures certain drugs can lower the threshold leading to new seizures; breakthrough of se izures in a child who had controlled; or an increased number of seizures in a child with chronic epilepsy. Renal damage from medication is not likely in most drugs used for behavior. Topiramate has caused renal stones in 1-2% of patients. Lithium and carbamazepine can cause a change in the ability of the kidney to concentrate urine. As in other medical problems it is always best to reach what you are taking before taking it. There is no cure TSC, although there are a number of treatments for the symptoms. Because TSC is a life long condition, individuals need to regularly monitor by a doctor the best treatments possible. I think children probably suffer the most having to grow up with chronic medical condition with other kids always making fun of you has to really tough on them. However these types of kids are very loving and don’t take much for granted not much of a pay off, but a good one. With the right medication and treatment plans people with TSC might be able to live comfortably. Research is being done to understand the disorder by learning more the TSC1 and the TSC2 genes and the function of the proteins –tuberin and hamartin produced by these genes. Scientists hope knowledge gained from their current research will improve the genetic test for TSC and lead to new avenues of treatment, methods of prevention, and ultimately a cure. tsalliance.org http;//www.ninds.nih.gov rare disease.org Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance fact sheet Hyman MH, Whittemore VH. Foreign Market Entry and Diversification Research Paper - 2

Foreign Market Entry and Diversification - Research Paper Example However, the issues that will remain unchanged are the functioning and control techniques including the ability of the institution to have better consumer associations and sales force. Through working upon the plans of foreign market expansion, a Coca-Cola institution may have benefits and be advantageous in many differentiated ways. A product line of particular type established by the organization can aid the enterprise in lowering the threat. It may achieve experience two different technologies, and establish the economies of scale. It shall satisfy the powerful desire to diversify the brand of the organization into a few extra fields of items, and will aid in achieving the profitable development (Karami, 2007). Diversification strategy Corporate administration’s initial course of action must be an analysis of if any opponent exists for enhancing its present enterprise functioning. The company wants to diversify DASANI, which is bottled water produced by Coca-Cola. The organ ization initially takes into account if it would achieve greater market share with its present items in their current markets (Neelankavil & Rai, 2009). This is known as the market penetration plan. After that, the organization takes into account where it can discover or establish new markets for its present commodities. This is the market growth strategy. Lastly, Coca-Cola will assess if it may establish new commodities for new markets. This is termed as the expansion strategy. The markets which Coca-Cola trades its commodities include in the United States and in the home market as well. The company has attained huge prosperity for the past years it has been in operation. However, the company feels there is a need for further expansion to reap more benefits. The Coca-Cola Company started to establish new commodity which will be used in the diversification process and which is the DASANI bottled water. DASANI at first got satisfaction outcomes when it first entered the United States market and the company hopes the product will repeat the same results when they decide to expand into new markets. Therefore, for the company to diversify its new commodity market and enhance its global competitiveness, it started to expand DASANI into a new market, which is in the United Kingdom. This expansion will increase the sales volume of DASANI; hence the increase in profitability of the company (Terpstra, Sarathy, & Foley, 2012). Market entry strategies Product positioning strategy This strategy is important for an organization to venture into a new market. The positioning strategy provides the organization with the best alternative to take to place the product, and at what price should it be sold at in the market for consumers to be able to access and buy it. Individuals in the United Kingdom are searching for greater quality water to drink. This calls for the Coca-Cola organization to commit extra resources to produce a high quality product that fulfills the consumer nee ds. A greater quality product will call for heavy investment in the production process and this as well calls for the products to reflect the cost of production. The differentiation strategy and the brand management strategy have as well to be applied in the product positioning strategy to achieve better and attractive results. Therefore, for

Suicide Rates Statistics Analysis In India Sociology Essay

Suicide Rates Statistics Analysis In India Sociology Essay World Health Organization Assistant Director-General Catherine Le Gals-Camus finds that more people around the world die from suicide than other causes. 1. According to Dr Anuradha Bose, associate professor in pediatrics who also works for the CMCs department of community health, suicide is the third largest single cause of death among Indian youth between the ages of 15-19. One in every three cases of suicide in India is committed by people due to academic pressure. 2. A suicide is reported in India every 15 minutes and it is believed that there are many more cases of suicides that are not reported, so the actual number is very high. 3. Kerala, the state with the highest literacy rate in all of India also has the highest suicide rate which is an alarming factor for academic pressure. 4. The average suicide rate in India is 103 per 100,000 people compared with the worldwide average of 14.5 suicides per 100,000 people. 6. More than 100,000 people commit suicide in India every year and 3 people a day take their own lives in Mumbai. The rate of suicide among females in India is close to three times that of males. The average rate for suicide among males in India is 58 for every 100,000 and 148 for every 100,000 women. This is contradicting to the situation in other parts of the world where the rate of suicides is high among men rather than women. Females, in contrast to males, characteristically are more open to ask for medical help and to communicate their anxieties and fears to significant others. Males tend to be acutely aware of feelings of sexual inadequacy or inadequacy of masculinity and believe it shameful to communicate such feelings. This seems to hold true for college-age males and females as well as adolescents. POSSIBLE REASONS Although the reasons for suicide in students are likely as varied as the people who commit them, there are some primary reasons for the high suicide rate in India. Here are some of the most common reasons for committing suicide in India. 1. Pressure to perform: In this modern age, from the moment the child is born, hes brought up in a very competitive fashion. They are under tremendous pressure to deliver at schools well as sports and for competitive examinations. Parents and society expect a lot from the children and the pressure to perform is high. A lot of students contemplate suicide because they could not achieve the good scores expected by their parents. 2. Family conflict, including domestic violence: India is losing the support that has traditionally come from the joint family system, as many couples now opt to live on their own, away from the rest of the family. There is less bonding and interaction with the family members and the feeling of neglect make the children feel unwanted and they get depressed. 3. Ragging: In few cases, ragging in colleges has been found reason for suicide in their first year. The emotional and humiliating treatment that the seniors give the juniors, make them want to forget everything by ending their lives. 4. Copy-Cat: Another explanation for the high teenage suicide rate was copy-cat suicides where children read about suicides in newspapers and decide to do the same thing themselves. There have been many incidents where children try to imitate suicides scenes from movies for fun and end up getting killed 5. Virtual Lifestyle: These days children are hooked to videogames and computer. The internet can be considered as boon or bane. Children have been sucked into the virtual world and they have been so addicted to it that they find it hard to live in the real world. This has led to many suicides as they have not been able to become normal again The factors responsible behind the student suicide are quite different from other suicides like found in elders. The few trends have been observed in a survey in educational institutes across in US. Out of 2402 students, 1078 (45.8%) had psychological problems, half (1201 students) perceived problems in their role as students, 930 (45%) reported academic decline, 180 (8.82%) students reported that life was a burden, 122 (6%) reported suicidal ideas and 8 (0.39%) students reported suicidal attempt. There was significant correlation between students perception of life as a burden and class they were studying, mothers working status, psychological problems and problems students experienced in relation to study, peers, future planning and with parents. Risk Factors Biological Clues: Family history of mental illness including depression, puberty, cognitive impairments, disability, chronic illness, substance abuse, anxiety, mood disorders and conduct disorder Sociological: Contagion, peer pressure, family conflicts, drug and alcohol abuse, other abuse, academic pressures; expectations of school, family and self; break-up in a relationship, interpersonal losses, legal or disciplinary issues, bullying/harassment, negative social environment, victimization experiences Psychological: Negative self-talk like Im no good or I am not worthy; poor distress tolerance, poor resiliency, poor interpersonal problem-solving, black and white thinking, previous suicide attempt Existential: failure to see the good in the world, hopelessness: Whats the point its not going to change Communication The addressing of this social problem can be divided in two types- Proactive- Raising awareness among the students community at large at not to feel depressed and communicating that suicide is not an end to problems. Reactive This communication for those who need help right at the moment. As suicide tendency is very ephemeral  tendencies quite some time. If the patient can be counseled right at the moment than suicide can be avoided. I would propose an integrated communication plan across the channels as they have different reach and richness. Before going deeper we have to select the central communication idea for the campaign. As the basic problem is depression due to some failure , the value of life should be shown in all the campaign. The central idea can be Life is to live and not to end. You can end you life, not problems. The creative brief can be framed around what the chetan bhagat has mentioned in a address to students to a university- Dont be serious, be sincere. This quote has defined my work ever since. Whether its my writing, my job, my relationships or any of my goals. I get thousands of opinions on my writing every day. There is heaps of praise, there is intense criticism. If I take it all seriously, how will I write? Or rather, how will I live?  Life is not to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? Its ok, bunk a few classes, goof up a few interviews, fall in love. We are people, not programmed devices. Mass communication- This can be divided further in different execution ideas- Movies: Few movies and documentary can be made which showcases the people who sometimes were depressed and thought of doing suicide have fought against the problem and become successful. The recently released film 3 idiots portrays such a character in which a brilliant student commits suicide due to failure in the exams. Textbooks:- Last page of text books can be devoted to such na motivationall stories about the people who did not do well in studies but able to make the histories in their field. People like Sachin Tendulkar , Bill gates , Mark Zukerberg who are college drop outs can be cited to make sure that text book and exams are not the end in itself. Newspapers:- The stories of committing suicide should not be given prime importance as it may promote the copycat to further to take the path. Society should not sympathize with the people who commit suicide as it gives a signal to potential person to reach that destination. Counseling: Every college should have time to time personal interaction with their students and family members on their academic performance and behavioral changes if any. Research shows that timely personal counseling is the most successful factor in preventing suicide cases. If needed, a professional psychologist can be sought for effective counseling. The counseling should be extended to parents and teachers. They also have to be educated that not every child can be best at everything and they have to find out their childs interest. Recently released movie Taree Zameen Par showcases this that every child is good at something and we have to nurture their interest rather than imposing their will on the students. Some psychologist suggests that parents drives the things which they were not able to do during their times through their child an in this process they go beyond the capabilities of the child. The overall personality of a student should be other parameter like sports and art also in students morale boosting. Help Line- Various help line is set up across the world who help the person who are depressed and counseling. Few of the most popular one are as below- http://www.samaritansofboston.org/ You are not alone. http://www.befrienders.org/ A helpline in Mumbai, called Aasra, has been operating for several years to tackle the problem. Connect to Young kids- Face book page Fight Against Growing Teenage SUICIDES having 768 likes In January Samaritans hosts an annual memorial service open to all suicide survivors. Dr. Anuradha Bose has begun a program of family life education, which includes information on sex and relationship for high school students which he hopes will help, but he admits its a small start to a big problem. Downsizing is framed within the context of removing or taking out employees witch are of much use to the company’s work process, or their performance is not adequate. It is almost like upgrading your old pc, and taking out the old and obsolete parts. Many successful companies nowadays engage in downsizing as a purposeful and proactive strategy.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Interestingly though, some studies have shown that only a handful of companies actually have improved organizational performance with downsizing. Downsizing may prove to be a good solution to some of the companies financial and staff performance problems, but downsizing has wiped out hundreds and thousands of jobs all over the world, disrupted the lives of many employees, and changed the face of employment forever.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In conclusion downsizing may be the only solution to many companies and their problems, but it leaves be hind an enormous scene of unemployment, and opens up many doors to the employees that were better left closed. Sometimes downsizing is not the only solution to a company, they could consider training some of the employees.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Now to address the second part of the question, which is about finding employees with the right qualifications to fit the desired post. Most companies nowadays look for employees with the right qualifications, but they are not willing to pay high salaries. There are many qualifications that companies seek when they are employing people to their workforce. They range from the basic ones such as enthusiasm, personality, outer appearance and so on. To the more elaborate such as technological and technical skills these are most important to data analysis, research and development sectors of a company. Visionary skills will also be in demand, for the ability to gather and analyze a wide range of data, and then this input and knowledge to guide the organization in to the future will be vital. The ability to learn will be above everything else will be very important, empowering people to grow and help their organizations achieve their desired goals & objectives. Some of these skills are innate, but many people enhance their ability to learn through college and university courses.

Dancing in the Night

It was a long, frigid night. The air was crisp and there was fog building up on the windows, as she sat and waited in the car for the night to end and daybreak to arrive. She had been fighting with her boyfriend of several years. As always, the fight ended with a loud WHACK†¦ Her face red with shame and damp with tears she shed. She did not know why she shed them- more for the pain or for the embarrassment. She sat in the car, her cries for pain dancing in the cold air, her breath becoming shorter on the intake. She wanted to break free. She wanted to break the chains over this abuse! Oh how she wanted to drive, drive anywhere and start her life over again. But again, as always, she had an excuse. She had reasoning for this crazy life, this notion of love. Thoughts swirling in her head. And then her breathing would dance in the frigid air once again. It was two o'clock in the morning. She had little clothing on to keep her warm. The only protection from the cold, besides the thin sheath of a jacket on her arms and an old scarf, was the array of goose pimples. She cupped her icy hands over her mouth and withdrew a hearty, deep breath. That still was not enough. She ran the scenario through her mind, trying to figure out where she went wrong, where she wronged the man whom she loved so dearly. All she could think of was how the thrashing of their bodies collided together, the pain she felt everytime he wanted to. She would tell him to stop, but he would stop at nothing. He always got what he wanted. These thoughts running through her mind were making her cry uncontrollably. She brought her hands to her face, gently cupping her rosy, tear stricken face. Pondering once again about her life, she could not understand one thing. She could not understand how this man, the man whom she has been with for so long, could be such an ass at times. He would man handle her, like she was one of the guys, when in reality she was frail, weak, a porcelain doll. He treated her in such a way that a savage young boy would do to a quaint dollhouse with glass dolls inside. She wiped a tear from her frozen left cheek. Rubbing her nose with the sleeve of the sheath, she gently blew. All of this crying left her nose terribly stuffed up, like traffic on a freeway during rush hour. He had broad shoulders with bulging veins, high cheekbones, a strong trunk, chiseled legs. Why would he force her? Why would he strike her? She could not think. She was almost frozen. Shaking once again from the cold night, she decided to try and get the heater to go on in her old Oldsmobile. Turning the key clockwise, pumping the break†¦ A load croak and moan spoke from within the car. Her luck- the car was dead. She knew nothing about cars. She was miles from home and from civilization. Her life was very complicated. This man spoke words of poetry about getting married and starting a family. Why would he strike her? He did not mean to though. He always bought her tulips after their fights. Pink and red ones. She loved the tulips he bought. They brought her back to her childhood. Her father was the same way. That is why she loved him so much. They are so much alike. She always fixed the same drink when they came home from a long day- Jack on the rocks. Then they would ask her to sit on their knee. Sometimes she would. When she would not, they would grab her pencil- like arm and force her down on their knee. They would never ask though. They would never ask if they could. They would just throw her frail body on the bed and pin her down. She would fight back, but after exuding so much energy, she would give in. And then the pain would begin. She never liked it. She never wanted her daddy to do this, her boyfriend to use that. After it was all over, she would sit and cry in the bathroom, blood oozing from her. Thinking about this made her flush once again and the heavens flowed from her angelic eyes. Six o'clock. Almost time for the rooster to crow. She made her way from the broken car to the side of the road. She saw some truckers pass by this secluded road during the night. She wondered if any of them had heat. What she would do for warmth right about now†¦ Then she spotted it- a large tractor-trailer coming her way. She withdrew her chaffed thumb from her pocket, shaking violently from the rough night of tears and lack of warmth. She still managed to shake her hip and open one more button on her jacket. She slightly exposed her sequin top from work the day before. She hid her tips in the hole of the right sleeve. All she needed was warmth and a place to lay her head. The tractor-trailer slowly grooved its way to a stop, like a train stopping on the tracks. The window disappeared into the door and the rough smile of this man was comforting to her. She opened up one more button and managed to say amidst the shaking, â€Å"Could ya give me a ride to the motel a few miles up? I seem to be havin' some car trouble. In return, I could give you some company- and anything else you might need, want, hafta have†¦Ã¢â‚¬ A half smile crept on her face. The driver had a sly smirk, as provocative thoughts ran through his head. He agreed to give her the ride. She agreed to his wishes. After all, that is how she met her boyfriend nearly three years earlier, running away from her daddy.

The Controversial Sport of Cheerleading - 894 Words

The Controversial Sport of Cheerleading Nikki Johnson Cheerleading is just one of those activities, which cause many controversial upheavals. Whether it is the outfits they are wearing or the moves they are doing, there is always a problem it seems like. I mean just think about how many times you may have seen something you don’t like or agree with cheerleaders doing. Well I guess that’s just the wonderful world of cheerleading. Cheerleading can be a great sport to become involved in, but many things need to be changed, like their skimpy outfits and sexual moves. First of all let’s take a look at cheerleading as a whole and the basics of it. Well to start off there are two types of cheerleaders, competitive and noncompetitive.†¦show more content†¦In the article â€Å"THE SECONDARY SCHOOL CHEERLEADER AND RITUALIZED SEXUAL EXPLOITATION,† I learned many things. The first surprising thing was the cheerleading started off as mainly a boy sport and now you don’t see nearly as many boys as you do girls involved with cheerleading and I think that is partly because in today’s society boys get made fun of for being a cheerleader. (Bennett) Another major thing that bothers me about cheerleading is that many girls get into cheering for the wrong reason, let’s just say that a lot of it is popularity. All in all there is so much you can argue on either side for cheerleading and hopefully schools are starting to see how cheerleading has changed into something other than rooting on your team, or competing for a national title. In conclusion I believe that cheerleading is a great sport, but has a lot of issues that need to be worked out in the long run. Many of the ones I talked about are the main issues that cause problems. Hopefully, cheerleading will keep going as a strong sport, but will find ways to solve all the little problems that come along.
